April Weeps Unveil New Single & Video
Slovak atmospheric metal collective April Weeps have returned with a brand-new video single, “Good Vibes Only”. Following the success of their third album Cataclastic, the band once again deliver a track that blends their signature contrasts, mood shifts, and emotional weight, this time wrapped in an ironically cheerful title.
At first listen, “Good Vibes Only” might sound unusually upbeat for the metal world, but beneath its vibrant veneer lies something far more unsettling. The song confronts the modern obsession with relentless optimism and motivational soundbites, asking what happens when positivity becomes a mask for pain.
The accompanying video dives straight into this concept, portraying a day in the life of a woman determined to maintain her smile despite cracks beneath the surface. What seems at first like a display of strength and resilience slowly reveals itself as detachment and denial, an existence where self-deception and forced smiles conceal deeper wounds.
The track’s idea came from vocalist Marta and guitarist Mário, while drummer Pítrs took charge of sound and production. The video was directed by the acclaimed Mateo Ťažký, a name well known in the Czech and Slovak music scene for his collaborations with bands across the heavy spectrum.
For us, this release feels particularly special. We’ve had a long-standing relationship with April Weeps, having first discovered them on Bandcamp back in the early days of Femetalism. Their blend of atmosphere, heaviness, and emotional honesty drew us in instantly, and we’ve followed their journey closely ever since. In 2022, we finally had the chance to see them live in Slovakia, an unforgettable experience!
By balancing irony with introspection, April Weeps continue to push their sound into new territories. “Good Vibes Only” is a song that may bring a smile to your face, before making you question whether that smile is truly yours.
