Lovelorn Dolls unveil new EP True Crimes
Belgian gothic/synth-rock act Lovelorn Dolls are gearing up for the release of their new EP, True Crimes, set to drop on 3 October via Alfa Matrix. Femetalism had the chance to listen to a preview, and we’re excited to say it’s a chilling and immersive experience that’s sure to captivate fans of the band’s signature darkwave sound.
Each track on True Crimes is inspired by a different cold case, where truth and myth collide. The opening track, Dahlia Bleeds, revisits the tragic story of Elizabeth Short, also known as the Black Dahlia, whose brutal murder in 1947 remains unsolved. Velvet Little Voice is a haunting portrayal of the ghost of JonBenét Ramsey, the young beauty queen whose death shocked the nation in 1996. The Boy in the Box recounts the mystery of the anonymous child found in a cardboard box in Philadelphia in 1957. And Call Me Your Ghost explores the cryptic menace of the Zodiac Killer, whose identity has never been uncovered.
Together, these tracks form a chilling requiem for unsolved mysteries, where dark tales of crime and obsession are brought to life through Lovelorn Dolls’ atmospheric and emotionally charged sound.
The cover art for True Crimes mirrors the unsettling tone of the music. It depicts a young goth girl staring at an investigation board, piecing together crimes too large and complex for her to fully comprehend. She represents the listener - drawn into a world of unanswered questions and spectral voices. The image captures both innocence and obsession, making it a fitting visual for the EP’s exploration of unsolved crimes.
Lovelorn Dolls have also expanded their lineup with the addition of Eric Renwart, a seasoned guitarist and sound engineer with over 30 years of experience in the music scene. Renwart joins the band as their third member, bringing raw energy to their live shows and adding a new depth to their evolving sound.
