Chelsea Wolfe’s “The Dark” Arrives Tomorrow
I’m writing this post from ArcTanGent Festival today, August 20, with Chelsea Wolfe’s headline performance still ahead of me - and The Dark arriving tomorrow, August 21. Needless to say, there’s a pretty good sense of anticipation here.
Wolfe’s new album The Dark arrives tomorrow via Loma Vista Recordings, with CD and vinyl editions following on September 18. The timing makes today’s ArcTanGent headline set particularly exciting, with Wolfe set to bring new music to the festival just hours before the album officially arrives.
The nine-track release follows 2024’s She Reaches Out She Reaches Out To She and features the single “Cold,” “The Dark” and “Death Is Not The End.”
The Dark draws inspiration from the idea of entering the woods at the darkest point and becoming the thing you fear in order to feel more brave. Wolfe began writing the album with Jennifer Decilveo alongside longtime collaborator Ben Chisholm, with the material intentionally stripped back to create space for the songwriting.
The album features contributions from Robin Finck of Nine Inch Nails, Matt Chamberlain of Pearl Jam, Troy Van Leeuwen of Queens of the Stone Age, Stella Mozgawa of Warpaint, and Justin Meldal-Johnsen of Nine Inch Nails and St. Vincent.
Wolfe’s arrival at ArcTanGent comes as part of an especially busy stretch surrounding The Dark. She performed an intimate show at London’s The Dome on August 18, where she played new music live for the first time, before heading to today’s ArcTanGent headline performance.
And that’s the part I’m especially looking forward to. With The Dark landing tomorrow, getting to hear some of this new material live tonight, here at ArcTanGent, feels like a fitting way to mark its arrival. I can’t wait to see what Chelsea Wolfe brings to the stage.
The album will then hit the road with a 43-date US and European tour running from September through December. Jonathan Hultén will join Wolfe across the US dates, while A.A. Williams will support the European leg.

The Dark arrives tomorrow. For me, there’s no better way to head into its release than being here waiting for Chelsea Wolfe to take the stage tonight.
