BLACK SPIKES Explore Human Vices on Progressive Metal Album Ydos

Lithuanian band BLACK SPIKES are set to release their new album, Ydos, on August 28, 2026, via Napalm Records. Following their double nomination at Lithuania's MAMA Music Awards, the band deliver a ten-track exploration of human flaws and vices.

What makes Ydos particularly exciting is the way BLACK SPIKES refuse to sit comfortably inside a single genre. Metalcore, death metal, rap, orchestral passages and progressive elements seamlessly weave in and out of one another, while electronic textures and trap beats add further layers to the band's sound.

The album opens with Pasaka, building from ominous ticking and orchestral passages into Agni's high vocals and screams. Motina then moves from a deceptively calming lullaby into growls, blast beats and elaborate guitar work, establishing the darker storytelling that runs through the album.

Across Ydos, BLACK SPIKES dedicate tracks to different human flaws and vices. Melas brings trap beats and rap into the mix, while Mara explores excessive curiosity through shifting contrasts between calm and intensity.

Zelvar, which contains the album's only English lyrics, and Revana continue the journey into greed and revenge, with both concepts personified as demons. Apatija turns toward apathy, combining futuristic interludes with heavy, headbanging rhythms, while Aurea tackles pride through ripping riffs, galloping drums and moments of tranquillity.

The closing stretch brings Senas Demonas and Dulkės, completing the album's dark exploration of humanity. From the crushing weight of its heavier passages to its atmospheric orchestral sections, progressive twists and unexpected rap elements, Ydos keeps shifting without losing sight of its central concept.
